We, in the community media, commemorate the tragedy of the Ampatuan Massacre. On November 23, 2009 – almost 10 years ago - in Ampatuan town, Mindanao, thirty four (34 ) journalists and 58 supporters and family members were brutally massacred on their way to register for an election, the person they believed would help them in an honest, decent, and democratic governance.
The Philippine Press Club of Ontario does not forget this tragedy.
We remind ourselves, our community, and the world, of the atrocity and
impunity of those who attempt to suppress freedom of the press and other freedoms --- justice has to prevail. We honor those who extol our freedoms.
